Walking with my shadow

Walking with My Shadow is a short filmed work made during Lockdown 2020.

Walking has long been part of my process — particularly within my ongoing Walks Boxes project — where movement through landscape becomes a method of observation and reflection. In this film, however, walking shifts into performance: a solitary act shaped by restriction.

During lockdown in the UK, we were permitted to leave our homes only once a day for exercise. For many, walking became both necessity and ritual. The lone figure in the film appears only as shadow — diminished, detached, and open to interpretation.

The original ambient sound is retained. The absence of traffic noise is noticeable. Footsteps, birdsong and the hum of bees become pronounced. The altered soundscape reflects the wider environmental shift experienced during this period of reduced human activity.

Alone, walking. Presence reduced to outline. Sound heightened. Time slowed.
